If you sign up for YouTube’s ad-free Premium subscription service for $12.99/month (or $6.99/month for students), you’ll be treated to original content currently exclusive to the service. It’s a nice perk and all, but most of the content isn’t all that good, at least in my opinion. Still, people wanna watch it, but you have to pay a monthly fee to do so.
That’s all gonna change. According to a report out of Variety, YouTube plans to make its original Premium content available to stream for free. Of course, this wouldn’t be fair to Premium subscribers since there still needs to be a good reason to pay for it in the first place, and it looks like YouTube has a solution: it’s gonna run ads during the movies and shows for free users. That way, Premium subscribers still get the best perk of them all: no ads whatsoever.
According to the report, this change will come by 2020. If we hear anything else regarding this topic, we’ll be sure to let you know.
