Amazon has announced it’s adding an equalizer to its lineup of Echo devices. This means you’ll be able to adjust the quality of your sound output with simple controls that let you fine-tune the bass, midrange, and treble. The company says you’ll have a range of plus or minus of 6dB with the feature.
While you will be able to adjust the EQ right from the Alexa app on your smartphone, you’ll also be able to do so on devices like the Echo Show and Echo Spot thanks to their screens. For audio-only devices, Amazon will let you adjust the EQ with your voice by using commands such as “Alexa, turn up the bass.” Note that when you adjust your Echo’s EQ, all audio that comes out of the speaker will have the same effect, so your podcasts and audiobooks will be as bassy as your music.
The company says only those who speak English and live in the United States will get the feature first. Others will need to wait for the rollout in the future.
