Verizon-backed budget cell phone carrier Visible has announced its expanding its device compatiblity list. Previously, you were required to bring your own iPhone to the service in order to get a plan. But now, Visible says in a press release those using Android can do the same. It’s an app-based program, meaning an Android version of Visible’s app is finally going to launch. It’s in beta at the moment, but it should be finalized in the near future.
In addition, Visible says it will now begin selling its own phones. Right now, the carrier is selling 11 different iPhone models, including the iPhone SE, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XS Max, and XR. It’s also selling the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. The company plans to expand the number of Android phones for sale in the future. You’ll be able to purchase the phones outright or buy them with financing thanks to the company’s partnership with Affirm.
To help protect your investment, Visible says it will now also offer a new program called Visible Protect. For an extra $10 a month, you can safeguard your phone after its warranty expires over things like accidents, hardware issues, theft, loss, and more.
Visible works by charging you $40 a month for its service. That gets you unlimited data, talk, and text over Verizon’s network. Of course, speeds are capped at 5Mbps, but for just $40 a month with no contracts and no activation fees, you can’t really complain.
Today’s announcements will go into effect beginning this week.
