The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally come: Twitter has begun rolling out their material design makeover to their official Android app. Yes, that’s right. You’re not dreaming. Twitter has finally rid us all of that horrible old, difficult design in favor of a new, fresh, simpler one. I think we all can now say, “Hallelujah!”
This new look was first spotted last month by XDA developer Hernán Castañón Álvarez who uploaded a video to YouTube demonstrating the new design. Then just a few days later, The Verge writer Mark Linsangan received the update on his device which he (obviously) wrote about. However, since then, nothing has really gone on concerning the new look. However, today at around 8:30PM we first spotted the material design on the Twitter app on our Moto E 2015 alongside an Amazon Fire tablet, and the new looks haven’t gone away, which indicates that this update is here to stay and is being delivered to users server-side rather a manual update via the Play Store.
As you can see, pretty much everything that was leaked earlier is present in this update. The swappable pages, hamburger menu, floating action button, and material icons are all here and make the official Twitter for Android experience that much better. No more is there a three-dotted menu button at the top right-hand corner to access your account. No more is there a major stretch of your hands to access certain functions in Twitter like DMs and notifications. No more is there basically the biggest learning curve of any social media app ever. Everything here is new, fresh, and better than ever.
