Tim Cook: AirPods Will Begin Shipping Over the ‘Next Few Weeks’

Many have been anticipating the arrival of the AirPods, Apple’s first in-house pair of wireless earbuds featuring Siri integration and the company’s W1 chip for easy pairing with iOS devices. According to a leaked email sent to an upset customer and obtained by MacRumors, we may not have to wait much longer for the headphones to being making their way to the ears of the public…

In the email, a customer explains how upset he/she is over the fact that we still don’t have a set release date for the AirPods. Fortunate enough, CEO Tim Cook apparently responded and said, in his own words, “we are finalizing them and I anticipate we will begin to ship over the next few weeks.”

Customer’s comment: “Give us a release date. I really bought in to the wireless vision you painted. Now I’m stuck waiting with my EarPods but can’t charge my 7 at the same time which I need to do at work. Let us know if it’s a month or 6 months, because then I’ll just buy some other wireless headphones.”

Tim Cook’s response: “Thanks for your note. Sorry for the delay—we are finalizing them and I anticipate we will begin to ship over the next few weeks.”

For those of you who are skeptical about this email, it’s worth noting that MacRumors traced the email headers back to Apple’s own servers. Of course, these could be fake and we’re giving you false hope, but that doesn’t seem likely at this point.

Judging by this email, the rumored December launch date of the AirPods may be true after all. A day before Apple’s big October Mac event, the company withdrew their claim that the headphones would be ready in “late October” and said that they needed more time to work on them. Between now and then, I’d assume Apple was able to finalize the product and make them ready for debut on the market. In addition, Cook’s alleged claims also line up with recent rumors and occurrences regarding this matter, so it should be only a matter of time until we start seeing everyone with EarPods without cables in their ears.
