Tesla has begun rolling out an update to its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving packages that adds stop light detection to the company’s Autosteer feature. When enabled, Autosteer Stop Light Warning will alert you of upcoming red lights the vehicle fears you may blow through. Tesla uses its various sensors, cameras, and mapping data that come with its vehicles to achieve this.
Notably, Stop Light Warning won’t stop your car for you. The alert will tell you of an upcoming red light and suggest you begin slowing down. While the feature isn’t fully autonomous, it should at least come in handy in case you forget to glance up while on the road.

Your car may warn you in some cases if it detects that you are about to run a red light while Autosteer is in use. This is not a substitute for an attentive driver and will not stop the car.
According to Tesla, the new feature is shipping as a part of software update 2019.8.3. It’ll be availalbe on all compatible U.S. vehicles manufactured after 2016.
