Today, Spotify announced a new version of its app for Google’s Wear OS smartwatch platform. The app coincides with the Android version in which it’s much lighter and less feature-packed. However, it should still prove to be convenient for users.
For one, you get Spotify controls right on your wrist which let you play, pause, and skip tracks. There are also shortcuts to manage your connected speakers and favorite songs that come on. Possibly the best part of the app, however, is the ability to sift through your song library and list of playlists.
Unfortunately, though, the app has some limitations, specifically when it comes to playing music on your Wear OS device. For whatever reason, Spotify doesn’t let you download music to your wrist for offline playback nor does the app let you play local files. Sure, this new version just came out and the feature could be added down the road, but for now, this could make or break the experience for many people.
Still, if you wanna give it a go, you can download the new Spotify app for Wear OS from the Play Store for free. In addition, Spotify says it’s partnered with Fossil and Michael Kors to pre-load the app on new watches shipping this November.
