Sony Xperia Z5 Smartphones Now Getting Marshmallow Globally

The roll out of Android Marshmallow to the Sony Xperia Z5 lineup of smartphones has begun, with people all over the world receiving the update on their phones as this new software is going out globally. This comes just a month after Sony officially released the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact in the U.S.

However the version of Marshmallow the Xperia Z5 lineup is receiving is 6.0 and not 6.0.1, it does include February’s security patch other smartphones have already begun receiving. The update includes features such as Google Now on Tap, Doze, better app management, and improved storage configuration as well as a new home launcher. There’s also a brand-new camera UI built into the default camera app along with a new Xperia Messaging app and Direct Share, plus enhanced privacy controls and settings.

One thing missing from the latest update is “STAMINA” mode, which is understandable since the build-in Doze mode kinda already does what “STAMINA” was created for, and therefore makes the feature unnecessary. However, there’s always possibility that Sony will bring back the tool in a later update for the Xperia lineup.

You should receive a notification that your Xperia Z5 is ready for an upgrade to Android Marshmallow within the coming days, however if that never occurs, feel free to manually check yourself by heading to Settings > About Device > Software Updates.
