Today via a press release, Samsung has unveiled details as to when their anticipated smartwatch the Gear S3 (announced two months ago) will become available. Most notably, the company says two weeks from now (November 18th) will be when you can pick up the wearable, while a $349.99 accompanies the release date. November 6th is the date when preorders will go live. Retailers like Macy’s, Best Buy, Amazon, and Samsung themselves all make it on the list of available outlets to buy the S3, so it looks like all the leaders in the game have already buckled down for the holiday shopping season creeping around that November 18th date.
Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced the forthcoming preorder availability of Gear S3 LTE and Bluetooth models, a striking and innovative smartwatch that further solidifies Samsung as a leader in connected wearables. The cutting-edge timepiece will be available in two designs – the rugged Gear S3 frontier, and the sleek Gear S3 classic. Starting at $349.99, Gear S3 will be available at retailers including Best Buy, Amazon, Macy’s and Samsung.com, as well as participating wireless providers.
In addition, LTE versions of the Gear S3 will be sold through AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, however it’s not currently known when they’ll go on sale or how much extra they’ll cost. We’ll, of course, update you when that information is available.
Gary Riding, senior vice president of Product Marketing at Samsung, had this to say on the Gear S3 with LTE.
“Consumers are increasingly recognizing the benefits of a smartwatch that operates even without their phone,” said Gary Riding, senior vice president of Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “With the LTE capability of Gear S3 it is easy to make or receive phone calls and read or reply to texts and notifications, so they can stay connected while leaving their phone behind.”
For reference, the Gear S3 comes in two editions (Frontier and Classic), features a 1.3-inch display, a new version of the Tizen operating system, a 46mm body that’ll likely be too big for some wrists, a 1.0GHz dual-core processor , a weird 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a nice and big 380mAh battery, wireless charging, Bluetooth 4.2, an Accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer, Heart Rate Monitor, and Ambient light sensor, and compatibility with Android phones running 4.4 or above and iPhones (eventually).
