It seems we never stop hearing about upcoming smartphones, and the latter half of 2018 is excellent proof of this. Now, we’re hearing about Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S10, which will likely debut early next year.
According to Twitter user Ice universe, the S10 will come with an “ultrasonic” in-display fingerprint reader. This reader will be different from the ones we’ve seen in devices like the OnePlus 6T and Huawei Mate 20 Pro in which it will be faster than what’s already available on the market. In hindsight, it looks like it could be the fastest we’ve seen so far. It’ll also have better accuracy thanks to a larger recognition area.
Compared to optical fingerprint sensors, the S10 ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is faster and has a larger recognition area, and 30% of the screens may be recognized.

Thanks to the new sensor, Ice universe says Samsung will drop the iris scanner with the Galaxy S10. Whether users will actually miss this security measure is debatable because it never was reliable enough to fully replace the fingerprint scanner. Unless you’re a hard-core iris scanner fan, the feature will likely be forgotten about by the time the S10 goes up for sale.
We’re still a good ways out before the Galaxy S10 is introduced. Of course, be sure to stay tuned because I’m sure we’ll hear more about the device soon.
