Today at an event, Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy Book 2, a successor to last year’s Galaxy Book which aimed to compete with Microsoft’s Surface Pro and Apple’s iPad Pro. This year’s iteration of the device sees Samsung adopt an ARM-based processor while still retaining Windows 10 as the operating system.
Specifically, the new Galaxy Book 2 packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Windows 10 S comes enabled out of the box, although you’ll have the option of upgrading to Windows 10 Pro if you want. Admittedly, this won’t be the most powerful PC to make it to market, but it should prove to be enough for casual use such as writing or browsing the web and getting work done.
These specs ship in the body of a tablet that can be connected to an included keyboard. The tablet itself features a kickstand on the back for positioning the device and a 12-inch sAMOLED 2160×1440 display. There are two USB-C ports, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. You’ll also find a fingerprint sensor, up to 20 hours of usage from the sealed-in battery, an S Pen, and 4G LTE connectivity thanks to the inclusion of the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem.
According to Samsung, the new Galaxy Book 2 will launch on November 2nd for $999. It’ll be sold through AT&T, Microsoft, and, of course, Samsung.
