Alongside the Galaxy Note 9, Samsung has unveiled its latest smartwatch called the Galaxy Watch. It’s the first time one of the company’s wearables hasn’t had the Gear brand attached to it, therefore tying the device more closely in with the rest of the Galaxy family.
The Galaxy Watch features a military-grade design that resembles a luxury watch and comes in 46mm and 42mm sizes. Finishes include Silver, Midnight Black, and Rose Gold. It’s also 5 ATM waterproof so you can go swimming with it on.
On the front sits a Super AMOLED 360×360 display in either 1.3-inch or 1.2-inch sizes, depending on which variant of the Galaxy Watch you select. Inside, you’ll find a dual-core Exynos 9110 1.15GHz processor, Tizen OS 4.0, up to 1.5GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and LTE connectivity. The watch also comes with Bixby 2.0 on board.
In addition, up to a 472mAh battery comes sealed within the Galaxy Watch which Samsung says can last several days on a single charge. Obviously, real-world testing will determine whether this claim is legitimate, so we’ll let you know how it performs once we get our hands on a review unit.
As for fitness features, Samsung says the Galaxy Watch can track all of the workouts you’re used to in addition to your sleep patterns. The watch will now also detect your stress levels and remind you to breathe regularly, similar to how the Apple Watch operates.
Finally, Samsung says the watch is compatible with Android devices with version 5.0 or higher and iPhones from the iPhone 5 and above.
The Galaxy Watch will cost $329.99 for the 42mm model with Bluetooth, while the larger 46mm model with LTE connectivity will cost $349.99. It’ll be sold through Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung’s website starting August 24th, 2018. In addition, select carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon will sell the LTE model as well. Preorders for the device start August 10th.
