Report: Apple to Unveil Two New Sets of AirPods Later This Year

Apple might be gearing up to launch not one, but two new sets of AirPods later this. This news comes via a research note by Ming-Chi Kuo which was obtained by 9to5Mac. A DigiTimes report also mentions the possibility.

According to today’s reports, Apple will release one set of AirPods with a few minor tweaks on board. This could mean a new chipset, better wireless connectivity, or something entirely different. It’s the second set of AirPods that will be most interesting, however, as they’re expected to come with an all-new design.

This mysterious new, redesigned version of AirPods will be the biggest upgrade to Apple’s in-house wireless earbuds we’ve ever seen. Not only will it come with a new design, but past rumors peg health tracking, noise cancellation, and waterproofing as all possible additions. Kuo doesn’t reiterate any of these rumors in his note today, but it isn’t exactly a stretch to wonder whether this new set of AirPods will finally bring this functionality to the table.

Kuo says we can expect both sets of AirPods sometime in late 2019 to early 2020. If that’s the case, we may only have five to six months left before we see the next version of AirPods hit store shelves. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any future developments.
