After confirming new chips were on the way earlier this year, Qualcomm has begun inviting press members to an event being held in San Francisco on September 10th where new processors for Wear OS-powered devices will be unveiled. The invite features an image of a smartwatch with the time 9:10 depicted by the two hands.
Hmmm. Just got a save-the-date from Qualcomm. Wonder what’s happening September 10? pic.twitter.com/HVeJrVSo2k

It’s unclear what Qualcomm has in store for smartwatches going forward, but anything over what we have now will be a big improvement. The Snapdragon Wear 2100, the chipset found in many of today’s smartwatches, is already over two years old and hasn’t seen an upgrade ever since it launched. A newer variant would certainly be welcomed by many and likely provide a better experience for Google’s new software.
Until we actually see the new chip(s), however, we can only daydream about what opportunities the new technologies will offer. We’ll keep you posted as we approach the 9.10 date.
