A public service announcement for everyone subscribed to Google’s YouTube TV: your subscription price is about to go up. YouTube today announced that it will be increasing the price of its $45/month streaming TV service to $50/month. The price hike goes into effect on May 13th for existing customers. Anyone who signs up starting today will see the new price immediately.
Why the increase in cost? It’s to offset the added value subscribers will now be getting. With every YouTube TV subscription, YouTube will now include the Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, The Cooking Channel, Food Network, HGTV, TLC, Travel Channel, and MotorTrend. If you’re a fan of any of these channels, you probably won’t mind paying the extra $5 per month. If you aren’t, there isn’t much you can do besides canceling your subscription since everyone (including new and existing subscribers) will see the hike go into effect.
Here’s a look at YouTube TV’s new lineup of channels.
