OnePlus 6T Won’t Have a Headphone Jack, But it Will Have a Bigger Battery

After confirming the device would feature an in-display fingerprint reader and appear slightly different than the OnePlus 6, OnePlus has confirmed its ditching the headphone jack for the OnePlus 6T. The company’s CEO, Carl Pei, said to TechRadar that he believes it’s the right time to strip the device of the port as 53 percent of OnePlus users have already transitioned over to wireless headphones. Luckily, the company will include a 3.5mm headphone dongle in the box, something a certain other phone manufacturer can’t claim any longer.

To accommodate for the missing headphone jack, OnePlus will also be releasing new USB-C-equipped earbuds (via The Verge). Interestingly, the company says they should work with most USB-C phones, tablets, and laptops, therefore finally giving headphone jack-less Android phone users a good third-party option when it comes to compatible wired headphones. The company even says they’ll be priced at the same $19.99 as the current Bullets are.

Thanks to the removal of the headphone jack, OnePlus says it was able to increase the battery life of the 6T, likely by making the actual size of the battery larger. What that new size sits at remains unknown, but it will likely be bigger than the 3,300mAh cell in the OnePlus 6.

As far as other benefits go surrounding the removal of the headphone jack, things remain unclear for the time being. OnePlus is expected to announce the 6T next month so be sure to stay tuned for more information.
