Official: Play Store Apps Are Coming to Chrome OS

A report by 9to5Google states that according to a description of a session at Google I/O (now removed), the company would be announcing the integration of the Play Store and Android app support with Chrome OS and how to optimize your app for it. This comes more than a month after our first glimpse of this transition was spotted.

Today we announced that we’re adding the best mobile app experiences in the world, Android apps and the Google Play store, to the best browser in the world, Chrome! Come to this session and test your Android apps for Chrome OS. You will get hands on help from our friendly engineers on how to optimize your Android app for Chromebooks. Oh, and we will also be giving the first 50 developers to show up a free Chromebook so they can get a head start bringing their apps to Chrome!

Since this session seems to be either cancelled or simply postponed, that free Chromebook offer might not be valid afterall, just to let you know…

If we get any word on whether Google confirms this news or not a bit more specifically, we’ll let you know.
