Motorola Won’t Be Releasing Android Pie for Some Z2 Force Users

Motorola had promised in the past that it would be bringing Android Pie to a number of devices, including the 2017 Z2 Force. But while the company’s last proper flagship phone will still technically get Android 9.0, it won’t really matter to many owners of the handset.

That’s because Motorola has announced (via Droid-Life) it’s limiting the reach of the Pie upgrade for the Z2 Force to just one version of the phone: the Verizon model. That means if you have a Z2 Force from AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint, you’ll be stuck on Oreo.

Presumably, a large part of the reason the Verizon Z2 Force is still getting Pie is so it can support Verizon’s 5G Moto Mod. Without Pie, Motorola couldn’t support the accessory on its somewhat older flagship. Regardless of modular compatibility, it still sucks that everyone else will be left out in the cold when Pie starts shipping.
