Google’s had quite some time now to roll out Android Nougat to Nexus devices all over, so it’s time for manufacturers to do the same for their devices. We’ve seen LG begin rolling out Android 7.0 to the G5, while OnePlus recently announced their plans for Android Nougat on the OnePlus 3. Now, we’re getting word via Redditt that Lenovo and Verizon are beginning to roll out the latest version of Google’s mobile OS to the company’s 2016 flagships, the Moto Z and Z Force.
As you can see, a demo unit of the Moto Z has received the upgrade package to Android Nougat. Unfortunately, the person who took this photo wasn’t able to install the software on the phone, however Wasney’s (the person’s Redditt username) friend did receive the updated software on her Moto Z Force. As of yet, there’s no word on what the status is with the Z Play and Nougat, but stay tuned.
As per the picture, it looks like Nougat for the Moto Z and Z Force carries the version number NCL25.86-11, features split-screen mode and fast app switching, and even builds Daydream VR compatibility into the phones. It takes approximately 20 minutes to install, while the exact size of the package remains unknown. It’s worth noting that the phone’s we’re talking about are DROIDs, meaning they’re locked to Verizon. Therefore, those who have an unlocked Z won’t be receiving Nougat until further notice.
We haven’t received Nougat yet on our Moto Z DROID review unit, but we’ll let you know when we do.
