Ahead of the official kickoff of IFA 2018 later this week, LG has unveiled two new variants of its G7 ThinQ smartphone. The G7 One and G7 Fit will both be sold at a lower price than the current G7 and come with lower-end processors and cameras.
According to LG, the G7 One and G7 Fit both come with 6.1-inch LCD 3120×1440 Super Bright displays with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a notch at the top. You also get the same glass design as the standard G7 along with a 16MP camera on the back, an 8MP shooter on the front, a 3,000mAh battery, a quad DAC, a headphone jack, a USB-C port, a Google Assistant key, IP68 certification, HDR10, and DTS:X 3D surround sound.
Where the G7 One and Fit differ is in processors and software. Whereas the standard G7 opts for the new Snapdragon 845 processor, the G7 One packs a Snapdragon 835 chipset. Meanwhile, the G7 Fit includes a Snapdragon 821 from 2016. Sure, both chips are fully capable of providing a decent experience for a smartphone, but neither can really compete with the 845.
That being said, there is one device that makes up for its shortcomings with improved software. While the G7 Fit includes LG’s own software on top of Android 8.1 Oreo, the G7 One features Android One powered by version 8.1. This means you’re getting stock Android on a somewhat high-end LG phone, a dream that many fans of the company’s devices have longed for for years. Of course, LG does add a few features to make its AI Cam and quad DAC work, but other than these few tweaks, you can expect a clean experience at least when using the G7 One.
LG says it’ll be showing off the G7 One and G7 Fit at IFA this year at its booth. Pricing and availability hasn’t been announced yet, but we expect to learn more in the near future.
