According to CNET Korea‘s sources, the upcoming LG G5, which has been highly speculated for a number of months, is rumored to feature a metal unibody design with a weird looking detachable foot for removing the battery – at least according to these renderings.
So rather having to pull off a removable plastic back panel, in order to remove the battery from the G5, you would pull of the detachable bottom piece of the phone, revealing the battery. This could be a breakthrough in unibody-designed smartphones, as a number of companies (like Samsung, Apple, and HTC) use this type of body to build their handsets, however every unibody smartphone on the market today doesn’t have a removable battery. So, in other words, this could be the “Holy Grail” of smartphones (you know, if LG gets rid of that horrible skin they had to layer on top of Android).
And if these renders are legit, we could also see the extinction of the rear volume buttons LG is famous for. Instead, at least according to these pics, what we’ll get is the rear camera with dual LED flash and a fingerprint scanner that is reportedly to house the home/sleep/power button. Nothing more, nothing less. Can’t get any simpler than that.
However, I wouldn’t get your hopes up about this. It seems kinda out there, you know? All I’m saying is we’ve never seen something like this before, so if LG does plan on making the G5 operate like this, they really should be confident that they perfected this design. Otherwise, it’s gonna be one of the G5’s “features” that’ll be a total turn-off to a lot of people.
