Last year, Lenovo introduced the Yoga C930 as a productivity-friendly laptop with a really cool speaker implementation. Instead of drilling grilles into the sides of the keyboard or on the bottom of the device, Lenovo actually built the speaker directly into the hinge of the laptop, and because it has a 360-degree hinge, the speaker would face you no matter how you held the device.
That feature was one of the main reasons I loved the laptop so much, and it looks like I’m gonna love its successor just as much.
Meet the new Yoga C940
Today, Lenovo is unveiling its new Yoga C940 laptop as the successor to the C930. Design-wise, it’s nearly identical to the C930 with a few minor tweaks here and there. The bezels around the screen are certainly thinner, and you get a similar reverse notch where the Windows Hello sensors live similar to the IdeaPad S940. But not much has changed overall, with an aluminum body and a 360-degree hinge.
Opening up the laptop, you’ll find either a 14-inch or 15.6-inch screen with either a Full HD or 4K resolution. Depending on the configuration, the display can go up to 500 nits of brightness which should be plenty to work with no matter the lighting condition. it’s also, obviously, a touchscreen.
Under the covers, you’ll find up to a 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor with 16GB of RAM and an Intel Teton Glacer 32GB + 1TB SSD for storage. With these specs, I wouldn’t expect this machine to lag at any given point. You even get Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics, so gaming shouldn’t be a problem.
For battery life, Lenovo rates the C940 as lasting up to 17.5 hours. Of course, this is with the Full HD model as the 4K model will only last up to 9.5 hours, according to the company. Still, though, you should be able to get through a full day with either model.
Rounding things off, Lenovo throws in a couple of USB-C ports, a standard USB 3.1 port, a headphone jack, a stylus, a fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi 6, and rapid charging.
There’s also a Yoga C740 and C640
Lenovo didn’t stop with just one new Yoga C-series laptop today. Alongside the C940, Lenovo is also introducing the C740 and C640. The former is available in both 14-inch and 15.6-inch sizes, while the latter is only available with a 13.3-inch screen. Both ship with Intel’s 10th-gen processors, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and standard speakers opposed to a rotating bar.
The C740 should last up to 15 hours on a charge with the right configuration, while the C640 is rated to last up to 20 hours with the right model. Each laptop also comes with a variety of ports, security options, and colors. Their main selling point will be a lowering price than the flagship C940, essentially.
Pricing & availability
The Yoga C940 goes on sale starting in October and will be priced from $1,249.99. The C740 will launch next month as well and start at $869.99. Finally, the C640 will launch in October and start at $849.99.
