Jesus Will Star in the First VR Feature Film

VR is the future. It’s also now. And there’s no telling when it’ll die, whether it happens tomorrow or in 200 years. However, for now it looks like the technology will continue to evolve, for better or for worst. So what’s the next milestone in VR’s life? The first feature film, completely filmed in 360 degrees.

That’s right, everyone. The Venice International Film Festival is prepping to premiere a preview of the very first motion picture shot entirely for viewing in such VR headsets as Google Cardboard, the Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear, and more. But by now you’re probably wondering, “What will the film be about?” Well, it’s definitely not an alien invasion or the return of the Jedi. It’s actually about the life of Jesus Christ.

Yes, I’m sure plenty of you may not be on board with this idea, but it’s too late now as that’s what’s already been filmed, edited, and will premiere come Christmas Day 2016. A 40 minute chunk of the movie will be shown at VIFF, while the film will take place 2000 years ago during the times of Christ and his disciples. The story of the movie will be based around the Biblical figure’s life which includes his baptism, the Sermon on the Mount, the Last Supper, the crucifixion, and the resurrection. The same location where Passion of the Christ was filmed (Matera, Italy) will be where the film was entirely shot.

Jesus VR – The Story of Christ will mark a major milestone in VR’s history. It’ll count as the first full-length feature film entirely shot to be enjoyed on virtual reality headsets. The film will also serve as a proof-of-concept type figure that will prove other projects based on the same goal with this one can/will be completed and released to the public, whether those films be about another Biblical adventure or the latest Star Trek flick.

We’ll bring you more on this story as we gain more information in the future. For now, sit back and wait for December 25th to roll around.
