After much speculation and plenty of leaks, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman last night onstage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas confirmed on-stage that Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the official title of the upcoming 2017 film starring Tom Holland as the web slinger himself. Rothmans stated that the reason for this title is to depict their high-schooled aged star while also stating that “Peter (Parker) is trying to find his way home” in the film. Ironically, last night they showed a clip of the movie where Peter is literally coming home to Aunt May (who is played by Marisa Tomei) who’s speaking with Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man. This makes sense now that Spidey’s in the MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will begin the second reboot of the original Spider-Man trilogy which starred Toby Maguire as Peter Parker who, to this day, still remains everyone’s favorite Spidey. The first reboot, called The Amazing Spider-Man and featured Andrew Garfield as Parker, kinda flopped at the box office, especially when TASM 2 came out. This is probably due to an overdose of villains in the film, with the Green Goblin, Electro, and Rhino all making appearances throughout the movie. The same amount of villains was found in Spider-Man 3, which starred Maguire and featured Venom, Sandman, and the New Goblin (a spinoff of the original Green Goblin played by Harry Osborn, Norman Osborn’s son) and is also to blame for that movie’s lack of success. As long as Marvel and Sony don’t feature too many villains in the upcoming film(s), we could see the first truly successful Spider-Man franchise in all of the web slinger’s history.
