Apple has officially begun sending press invites for their next event which is scheduled for September 7th. The even has been rumored to occur on this date for quite some time now, however it’s now been confirmed by Apple themselves that this is indeed the official date.
Over on Apple’s official September 2016 event page, the company states that the keynote will take place in San Francisco at Bill Graham Civic Center and start at 10AM PT/1PM ET. Viewers can stream the entire event here on their iOS 7 or later device, their Mac running OS X 10.8.5 or later and Safari 6.0.5 or later, or their PC with Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. You’ll also be able to stream the show on your Apple TV 4 via the Apple Events app, while those of you on the second- or third-gen TVs can watch via the same method.
The invitation being sent out this year is very simple, with unfocused lights arranged in the outline of the official Apple logo appearing over a dark background with plain, with text at the bottom saying, “See you on the 7th”. We can’t really make anything out of this invite, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for anyone who does.
We’re expecting the iPhone 7 to be announced at this year’s September event which will look very similar to the iPhone 6 family. Rearranged antenna lines, the removal of the headphone jack, and the possibility of another speaker grill at the bottom of the device will be the physical differences between it and the 6, while a thinner form factor may also make its way to the 7 (6SE?). An A10 processor is expected to be loaded into the latest iPhone alongside a minimum of 32GB of storage. In addition, an upgraded camera system on the standard 7 is also expected, while the 7 Plus/Pro will likely get a dual-camera system on the rear. We may also see a new darker color option become available that may or may not replace Space Gray.
Apple Watch wise, we’re expecting the Apple Watch 2 (or Apple Watch ‘S’) to definitely featured a GPS and a very similar design to the original Watch. At the time, there’s not much else to share about the upcoming wearable from Apple, however the larger 42mm variant may feature a bigger battery than the standard 38mm model.
While they seem pretty unlikely to arrive, Apple may also unveil new MacBook Pros at this year’s September event. These computers will feature a slimmer form factor, an OLED touch bar which will replace the Function keys at the top of the keyboard to deliver (ironically) more functionality to the laptops, USB-C ports (around 3 or 4 of them to be exact), a Touch ID sensor where the power button is, and likely upgraded internals. New MacBooks don’t normally come during a September Apple event and are usually held off until October, however we may be surprised since last year’s Fall event jammed the iPhone 6s/Plus, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, new Apple Watch colors and bands, and the fourth generation Apple TV into one single event.
