Instagram Officially Adds Multi-Account Support in iOS and Android Apps

Just a few days ago, iOS users were reporting that Instagram added the ability to add multiple Instagram accounts to a single app, and now the social media platform has officially announced this new update and is releasing it to both iOS and Android users.

Users can add up to 5 accounts to their device, which should be plenty unless you share your device with more than 6 people that all have accounts.

This is a feature users have been waiting for for quite some time, and I’m one of them. But however this is good for the native Instagram app, this update is probably gonna cause some hard times for third-party clients trying to have unique features like multi-account support, however it’s never really worked out great since the Instagram API doesn’t support uploading photos to your profile through those apps.

Instagram has written a support page about how to add new accounts to your device in the newly updated app which can be found here. We’ve also pasted their method of adding an account to this post, which can be seen below.

You can add multiple Instagram accounts to switch between them without having to log out and log back in. To add multiple Instagram accounts:

  1. Go to your profile and tap  or  in the top right
  2. Scroll down and tap Add Account
  3. Enter the username and password of the account you’d like to add

To switch between accounts you’ve added:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Tap your username at the top of the screen
  3. Tap the account you’d like to switch to

You can download the new update from the App Store and Play Store for your device.
