Instagram has announced it’s rolling out a new feature that lets you know when your friends are active on the platform. Starting today, you’ll see a little green dot sitting next to their profile picture in various spots around the app, including in your DMs, that lets you know who’s online and who isn’t. This is similar to how Facebook lets you know who’s active on Messenger or the main Facebook app.
Of course, for security, you can turn off the feature so no one has to know whether you’re active or not.
The update is rolling out to all Instagram users starting today.
