Huawei’s Mate 9 Will Feature Amazon Alexa and Run for $599

Back in November, Huawei unveiled a new handset called the Mate 9 with pretty high-end specs at a pretty high-end price. In other words, it’s a flagship. Now, we’re learning more about what will be featured on the smartphone when it launches and how much it’ll cost, specifically in the United States.

As per a press release, Huawei has announced that Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant will come pre-installed on the Mate 9, marking the first phone ever to feature the AI bot. You can ask it questions about such things as the weather and latest news, while controlling your smart home accessories is also possible. Presumably, you’ll have to hold down the home button on the Mate 9 to activate Alexa, but this is normally the case with most voice assistants anyway.

For those in the States, Alexa will come straight out of the package on the Mate 9. For those across seas and in other territories, an OTA update will be delivered granting you access to the software.

In addition, $599 is the price of the Mate 9 in the US. This is a pretty cheap price for a phone of its category and puts it price-wise behind the Pixel and iPhone 7, two of the phone’s biggest competitors.

The Huawei Mate 9 will be available starting tomorrow, January 6th from retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and Newegg in the United States.
