Huawei Announces Honor V8 Smartphone w/ QHD Display and USB-C

Huawei today finally unveiled to the world their latest smartphone, the Honor V8. A press conference in China was the scene where this new device was seen for the first time by the public, and it’s quite impressive.

First of all, there are two variants of the V8: while both have 5.7-inch displays, one has a 1080p screen while the other has Huawei’s first quad-HD (2560×1440) screen. The 1080p model comes with an octa-core Kirin 950 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, while the QHD model features the more powerful Kirin 955 clocked at 2.5GHz. Each model comes with 4GB of RAM for multitasking, so there shouldn’t be any slowness here.

The camera system on the back of the V8 is a 12MP dual system like the one found on the LG G5 with a dual LED flash. The front camera comes in at 8MP and features a wide-angle f/2.4 aperture.

An infrared sensor, fingerprint scanner, dual SIM system, and microSD card slot are all present on the V8 alongside a USB-C port to charge (or quick charge) the 3500mAh battery inside. This phone comes in 32GB or 64GB storage variants, however that shouldn’t be an issue to anyone since you can extend that via an SD card.

Software wise, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is loaded on-board with Huawei’s EMUI skin on top.

Here’s a rundown of the pricing of the V8:

  • 1080p screen – 4GB RAM/32GB – Kirin 950 – 2299 yuan ($352 USD)
  • 1080p screen – 4GB RAM/32GB – Kirin 950 + expanded network support – 2499 yuan ($383 USD)
  • QHD screen – 4GB RAM/64GB – Kirin 955 – 2799 yuan ($429 USD)

We still have yet to find out if the V8 will be coming west to the U.S. or not, however since it was unveiled in China, there’s a good chance it’ll stay there, at least for a while.
