Remember when HTC made tons of headlines when they announced and launched the One A9? The reason behind this sudden burst of attention is because it resembled Apple’s iPhone 6. A lot. In fact, it resembled it so much that it literally looked like HTC just slapped their logo on the back, moved the rear camera to the top-center of the phone, and stretched out the home button into the shape of a pill. This caused many to accuse the company of stealing Apple’s design , however that’s not necessarily true…
At this point in time, there’s only so many different ways to design a smartphone. Whether you come up with your own crazy concoction for a handset’s look and feel or if you decide that one company has what you’re looking for in a smartphone design, you’re bound to look at least a bit similar to someone else’s device(s). And apparently, this was HTC’s “mistake”. I mean, I wanna defend the Asian OEM very bad in this perspective because there not the only ones who made a phone that looks like an iPhone, but according to a new report by VentureBeat, it looks like this design was most likely intentional (and so is the new name for the handset).
Apparently, HTC has made a successor to the One A9 they’re calling the One A9s. Notice any similarities? Let me give you a hint: when Apple releases a phone (take the iPhone 6 for example), the next year’s handset will be the iPhone 6s. Same goes for the 5 and 5s. And now, this is the case with the One A9 and A9s. I can’t help but think that this is not a mistake and HTC is trying to “fight” – per se – with Apple. No, it’s not a coincidence either. This is HTC trying to be like Apple.
If HTC wants to gain back the mojo they used to have (if they even really had any), they’ve gotta stop copying Apple. I mean, it’s only obvious this is a step the company has to take. Just because Apple’s got a system that works pretty well doesn’t mean HTC should try the exact same thing themselves. I don’t care if it’s because of monetary reasons or if they’re just being lazy, they’ve really gotta get their head in the game and out of Apple’s headquarters.
Getting off my rant, the HTC One A9s (I kinda wanna laugh when I say that, but whatever) basically shares all the internals of the One A9. As of yet, we don’t know this for sure, but it’s been reported that this is true. One of the only design changes HTC made to the A9s is a repositioning of the camera lens to the top left-hand corner, and if you know your iPhones, you know this is where Apple’s handset’s sensor sits as well. Hey, I’m just sayin’…
Anyway, the camera sensors on the A9s are rumored to weigh in at 13MP and 5MP on the front and back respectively, however these are the same sensors on the standard A9. It’s unclear just how much HTC will change as a part of the A9s, however we should learn more when the device is unveiled on it’s reported date of September 1st, one day before IFA 2016. We’ll have more on this device alongside the rest of IFA later this week. Stay tuned!
