The day has finally come. Today at 10AM PT/1PM ET, Apple will hold their iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2 event where these new products will be unveiled. Of course, since this event is so huge, plenty of people are gonna want to watch it live, so as our official guide, here’s how to watch today’s keynote regardless of which device you do it on.
On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you plan on streaming the event on your iOS device, you’ll have to be running iOS 7.0 or later. This means that the iPhone 4 and up, the iPad 2 and up, and the iPod touch 5 and above can all stream the keynote. No additional apps will need to be installed, as Apple allows you to simply hop over to apple.com and watch the whole thing via Safari.
If you don’t feel like watching the event itself, there’s also a live blog Apple will be hosting that’ll give you the latest details and announcements from the keynote in images and a paragraph or two. The blog will be live via the same link seen above. I recommend taking advantage of this method of keeping up with Apple’s event if you’re on a device that can’t stream the keynote.
On Mac
If watching Apple’s keynotes is something you do on your Mac, you’ll need to meet these requirements: Have at least OS X 10.8.5 installed on your system alongside Safari 6.0.5 or later. Other than that, you should be good. Just crack open Safari via this link and you’ll be good to go.
Like I said previously regarding older iOS devices, if your Mac doesn’t support Safari 6.0.5 or OS X 10.8.5, you can always check out Apple’s live blog they’ll be hosting for up-to-the-minute details. The link can be accessed above.
On Apple TV
Watching Apple’s events is a very popular way to enjoy the Apple TV. And if you plan on using this method, you’ll need to make sure your TV 2 or 3 is updated to software version 6.2. If it’s not, you won’t be able to watch the event. If you’re using the Apple TV 4, you’re already good as no software upgrades are needed.
To watch the event, you’ll need to download the free Apple Events app from the App Store to your TV if you’re using the TV 4, while users of the TV 2 or 3 can watch the livestream via the built-in Events app that recently got updated for this year’s September keynote. If you choose not to follow either of these methods of viewing, you won’t be able to stream the event at all. Not even a live blog will be present.
On PC
Once again, Apple will be letting Windows PC users watch their September keynote without having to toggle anything on or off or install anything special. The only catch is that you need to be running Windows 10. If you are, just bust open Microsoft Edge (the only browser Apple supports for their events) and head over to this link.
No other special requirements are needed to watch Apple’s event this year on your PC, so as long as you’re running Windows 10 and have access to Edge, you’re good to go.
On Android or Other
At this point, I’m really hoping you don’t actually think you can watch Apple’s keynote on your Android device. But if you do, the answer to your question is no, you can’t. You also can’t stream the event live unless you have a device listed above. However, the live blog will be visible on every device with a web browser and an internet connection, but that’s pretty much it.
If you don’t wanna follow Apple’s live blog, I’ll be live tweeting the entire event with constant updates, pictures, and video from my comfortable spot at my local Starbucks. You can follow me on Twitter @LegendaryScoop, while my Instagram profile (which is also where I’ll be sharing updates about the event) bares the same username.
We’re sure that the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2 will be unveiled at this year’s September event, while the company may surprise us with something unexpected like new headphones or possibly a refreshed MacBook Pro. That last one seems pretty far out there, but hey, a guy can dream, right?
We’ll have full coverage of Apple’s event from start to finish on MBEDDED, so be sure to stay tuned!
