Google’s Rolling Out the January Security Patch to Nexus and Pixel Users

Marking the first for 2017, Google has begun rolling out the January security patch for Android to Nexus and Pixel devices. Last month’s release of the December patch arrived the same time as Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

This month, 95 bugs and security holes have been patched up as a part of both January security patch versions, with one labeled 2017-01-01 and the other 2017-01-05. The two most critical flaws found concerned security vulnerabilities in both Android’s Mediaserver and kernel memory system.

Those of you who are looking for factory and OTA images of the January security patch for your device, you can click here or here, respectively. Expect the update, however, to hit your device sometime around January 5th.
