We haven’t heard much about Google’s new tablet-laptop hybrid, the Pixel C, since their event last September. They didn’t talk about it, they didn’t hint at the release date, and they didn’t set up preorders either. But now, out of the blue, Google is now selling the Pixel C full on. Not for preorder, but for ordinary order. Like anything else.
In case you’re not aware, the Pixel C is packing a 10.2 inch 2560×1800 display, which, if you do the math, clocks in at 308 pixels per inch, which is a lot of pixels, and packs 500 nits, so the display is always vibrant in bright environments. However, it packs an LCD panel, so don’t expect mind-blowing viewing angels.
The device has an NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor with a Maxwell GPU, so you know you’re getting a lot of speed out of this guy. It packs 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, so you’re pretty much never gonna run out of memory, and an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front for all of you tablet-selfie takers.
The tablet also features USB Type-C (he he he), which, in case you live under a rock, is the future of the USB port: it can supply charge to the device it’s on, along with offer data transfer between USB Type-A devices and itself with a special adapter, plus output a secondary display via another special adapter with a female HDMI or VGA port. I know, I know, pretty crazy, huh? And more and more companies are inputting the technology into their products, like Apple with their 2015 12-inch MacBook, and Microsoft with their Lumia 950 and 950 XL. Pretty soon, it’ll over take the current Type-A connector we’ve all fallen in love with over the years.
But getting back to the Pixel C, it also doubles as a laptop. Sort of. You see, much like the iPad Pro, Google offers a keyboard case for the powerful tablet that works exactly as you’d expect it to: you can type words with it when connected to the Pixel C over Bluetooth. But the case costs quite a large chunk of change, at $149. The tablet alone starts at $499 for 32GB of storage, and if you add that together, you’re spending $648 on a speedy tablet and keyboard case for simplicity and speed while typing. However, it’s not as much as the iPad Pro, which I’m not gonna bring up…
That’s the Pixel C. You can order yours here and get the matching keyboard case here.
