Good news for our friends across the pond: Google has launched their Android Pay mobile payments system in the United Kingdom for all users to enjoy. Those with a MasterCard or Visa and have an account with the Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA, or Nationwide Building Society will be the first to use the service in the country, with more banks to be added in the future.
To make the temptation stronger for users to sign up, Google will be sweetening the deal with plenty of promotions:
Also, we will be launching Android Pay Day bringing special offers each month to brighten the last week before pay day. Starbucks UK and Deliveroo will be among the first to reward Android Pay users in the UK. Stay tuned for more offers which will roll out in the months to come.
It’s interesting to see just how slow Android Pay is rolling out. The U.S. and U.K. are the only two countries in the entire world with access to the system, and the service launched in September of last year. Hopefully more countries will begin to accept the method of payment soon as it’s the most flexible way of paying for something since it’s available on a variety of Android devices.
