Google’s Night Sight mode on the Pixel is one of the most incredible features on any phone. Through Google’s magical camera processing, it can make photos taken in pitch-black conditions look like they were well-lit to begin with. Because so many people use it, it would make sense to move it from the “More” section of the Pixel camera app to the forefront, and that’s just what Google will do with Android Q.
As spotted by 9to5Google who got hold of a leaked Android Q build, Google will promote Night Sight to a default camera mode in the mode slider near the bottom of your screen. The mode will replace panorama which moves to the “More” section. But honestly, who uses panoramas more than Night Sight on a Pixel phone?
In addition to this change, Google is also making a few additional tweaks. The white balance and color temperature controls are gone, Google Lens has a new icon, and the front-facing “flash” has been renamed to “Illumination” with a new sepia tone to better balance skin tone.
It isn’t clear if these changes will roll out to all Pixel phone owners or if they’ll remain exclusive to Android Q. We’ll likely find out soon, though.
