Google has begun rolling out the ability to have a video call with more than one person at a time in its video calling app, Duo. Users have begun reporting around the web (via Android Police) that the feature is rolling out to them in their home countries, including the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and India. Google hasn’t confirmed the rollout itself, but Justin Uberti who works on Duo did say the company is “ramping up” the rollout of the feature to a few regions.
To make a group video call, you select the group button within the app and tap the faces of the contacts you’d like to add to the call. Afterward, hit the call button and everyone’s phone should ring. As each person enters the conversation, you’ll see new tiles pop up on your screen with each person in their own frame. It looks like you can only have four people on a call at once (including yourself).
To see if you have access to group video calling, be sure to update the Duo app through the Play Store on Android or the App Store on iOS. There’s a better chance you’ll have it if you’re running Android as new features like these typically reach devices that run Google’s OS first.
