Facebook has been corroding its messaging app, Messenger, with various features and updates that no one has asked for. This has led to an overall messy experience that’s far from simple and convenient. Now, however, it looks like the company wants to turn things around.
Today during its F8 developers conference, Facebook announced it will give Messenger a complete redesign focused on simplifying the experience. CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Messenger VP David Marcus made the announcement on stage and said the update will arrive “very, very soon.”
As you can see in the image above, Facebook will simplify the app by displaying all of your chats on the main page with Stories and shortcuts to take a photo, video, or start a new conversation at the top. Three tabs will be at the bottom of the app that separate the different features of Messenger rather a whole slew of shortcuts like we have now. The app will also get a dark mode.

We have yet to hear a precise release date for the update, but we expect to hear more in the near future.
