Essential Phone Now Getting Upgraded to Android Pie

After Google released the update to Pixel owners everywhere, Essential has gone ahead and released Android 9.0 Pie to the Essential Phone. This doesn’t exactly come as a surprise given the fact Essential was a participant in the Android P beta. Still, it’s pretty impressive to see the company deliver the update that most people won’t see on their own phone for another six to ten months.

With Android Pie on the Essential Phone, you gain access to a refreshed UI, a new navigation system, Adaptive Battery, better performance, and the August security patch. Pie also marks the second major software upgrade the PH-1 has received in its lifespan, an impressive stat for a phone that’s just over a year old.

If you want to see if your Essential PHone has received Pie yet, check the Software Updates section of your settings app. There, you should find the new software ready to download. Be sure to plug your phone in before installing the update so you don’t get interrupted during the installation process.
