In honor of Safer Internet Day 2016, Google is giving users an additional 2GB of free Drive storage if they run a Security Checkup for their Google account. This comes in an effort to push users to keep their accounts more secure as more and more cyber hacks occur.
This Security Checkup requires you to run through a simple checklist and make sure no one has been active on your Google account that you don’t know. These checklist items are as follows:
- Recovery information
- Recent activity
- Account permissions
- App passwords
- 2-step verification
After all of that is done, Google will reward you with an additional 2GB of free storage for your Google Drive cloud space. And just to let you know, Google won’t notify you that they added more storage to your account, as I one through several security checkups while awaiting some kind of email or notification stating that I now have 17GB of space. They’ll just add it quietly and securely.
