Confirmed: Instagram is Bringing Live Video to It’s Platform

It’s been rumored for some time thanks to recent leaks that Instagram may soon bring the ability to broadcast live video to all users of their platform, however it was never confirmed that the feature was actually incoming. This speculation, fortunately, has now been cleared as the CEO of the social media platform has confirmed that they’re currently working on bringing live video to Instagram.

In an interview with CEO Kevin Systrom, Financial Times reports that Instagram will bring live video to their platform and that the social giant is excited about it. “Live is really exciting for us. I think it can enhance what we’re doing,” said Systrom. “If I’m trying to strengthen relationships with someone I love, them streaming video to me live would be an amazing way to be closer to them.”

Unfortunately, throughout this entire report, we can’t gain any insight on when live video will launch on Instagram or how it’ll be used. Ideally, there’ll be an interface change that’ll allow users to instantly begin broadcasting to followers, however specific details are rather scarce at this point.

Nevertheless, it’s interesting to see Instagram working on live video. This will place the photo/video sharing platform in the same world as apps like Periscope and other platforms like Facebook Live. Since Instagram is owned by Facebook, conflict between the two services may occur and users could be torn as to which platform they should choose to broadcast on. All in all however, I’m sure die-heart Instagram users will appreciate the feature, even though it’ll be difficult to compete with other live broadcasting services currently on the market today.
