At CES 2016, Samsung has unveiled yet another Chromebook to the world with this one targeted an ultra-portable and sleek choice in the world of Chrome OS laptops. Recently, Acer launched an updated version of their Chromebook, the Chromebook 11, which takes on a more rugged, durable form factor rather the beauty and thinness Chromebooks can be, like this one.
The new Chromebook 3 features a 180-degree hinge to guard against breakage, weighs just over 2.5 pounds, and features a grippy finish and design to make it great to carry around while still be hard to accidentally drop it.
“We’re seeing more and more people flocking to Chromebooks as families, students and other consumers seek out easy-to-use, highly portable and affordable laptops as resources for personal use, education and even work,” said Gary Riding, senior vice president, Mobile Computing at Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung recognized that demand when we launched the first-ever Chromebook in 2011. We’re continuing to keep up with evolving consumer needs with this new iteration, which offers even more convenient features that solve consumers’ pain points, like all day battery life and fast charging capabilities.”
Here’s a rundown of the specs of this new laptop:
11.6-inch 1366 x 768 resolution anti-glare display
Intel Celeron N3050 processor
Intel HD GPU
2GB or 4GB RAM
802.11ac Wi-Fi with 2x MIMO tech
2 x 1.5W stereo speakers
720p built-in webcam
USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports
MicroSD card slot
11 hour battery life (33Wh)
They’re pretty typical specs of Chromebooks nowadays, but, in my mind, what sets this Chromebook apart from it’s counterparts is it’s design and portability. Of course, lots of Chromebooks are meant to be portable, but this one has certain characteristics about it that please me, like the grippy finish around the body it features, the compact size, and it’s thinness.
Official pricing an availability haven’t been announced yet, but Samsung says they plan to launch this new laptop within the next few months. Chromebooks, however, with these types of specs, tend to go for $200-$250 so anything higher than that set as it’s price will be pretty unappealing. I expect this laptop to be around $239, and if you wanna back me up on that, leave a comment below.
