After confirming it would carry a device beginning in the first half of 2019, AT&T today announced it plans to offer a second 5G-enabled Samsung smartphone in the latter half of next year. With this announcement, the carrier is confirming it’ll carry three 5G-equipped devices in 2019 if you include Netgear’s 5G hotspot.
According to AT&T, this new Samsung phone will be able to access both 5G mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrums. This means it’ll support much more versatile network options which should provide you with faster speeds and better connectivity wherever 5G is available. That’s something the first 5G Samsung phone won’t be able to do, giving this particular device an edge.
Of course, though, we’re still light on details as to what either phone will offer. It’s rumored the H1 2019 Samsung phone will be some variant of the Galaxy S10, but no one seems to know what the H2 2019 device will be. If I had to take a guess, I’d say it’s either the special edition “Beyond X” Samsung phone we recently heard about or the Galaxy Note 10 which will, presumably, be released next year. As is the case with these announcements, however, there’s too much speculation to place any bets for the time being.
That said, 2019 is right around the corner and so is the rollout of 5G. Therefore, we should start hearing about these mysterious smartphones sooner than later. We’ll let you know when we have more information to share.
