After releasing multiple beta builds of the update over the summer, Apple has officially begun rolling out watchOS 5 to Apple Watches around the world. The update can be installed on Apple Watches dating back to the Series 1. However, the original watch isn’t included in the support lineup.
watchOS 5 includes a handful of improvements and new features that will make the Apple Watch a better overall companion to your iPhone. It includes new workout modes and automatic workout detection, a fun little walkie-talkie app, Siri Shortcuts support, an Apple Podcasts app, grouped notifications, and more. The update is essentially a bucket full of refinements, similar to iOS 12, that aim to make your experience better.
If you’d like to install watchOS 5 on your Apple Watch, head over to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. From there, access the Software update section and hit “Download and install” under the listing. You’ll need to have your Apple Watch on the charging puck to install the new update to ensure you don’t run out of juice during the process.
