Apple might delay its upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro to 2021, at the earliest. That’s according to a new report from famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors). Apparently, the same laptop that was originally slated to arrive in 2019 will instead begin shipping in 2020 or 2021. It isn’t clear why the delay is occurring or whether this also applies to the rumored 13-inch MacBook Pro upgrade.
Specifically, Kuo notes the new MacBook Pro could arrive in the first half of 2021. Typically, Apple launches new MacBooks in the second half of the year around October after the newest iPhone debuts. Of course, it isn’t unlike Apple to launch a new Mac in the beginning of the year; the original 12-inch MacBook was first shown off in March 2015. There are also rumors that a new 10 to 12-inch iPad will be launched in the first quarter of 2021, so Apple may use a single event to cover both announcements if the rumors rule out to be true.
In the same report, Kuo does note that not all hope is lost for professional Apple product users in 2019. The company is said to be gearing up to introduce a new 31.6-inch mini LED display with an “all-new design” that “will target a very high-end position.” It’s due time for a new Apple monitor as we haven’t seen one since the company’s Thunderbolt Displays were cancelled in 2016, so it should be interesting to see what this new display brings to the table. No time frame for when it’ll launch was given, but I’d expect it around October or so.
