After leaking out a few weeks ago, Apple today officially released brand-new battery cases for its latest smartphones, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. This marks the first time since 2016 that Apple has released a Smart Battery Case, as they call it. The last one was for the iPhone 7.

With these new cases, you still get a silicon exterior and a gigantic battery bump on the back. Since this case is available for the XS Max, I can only imagine the device will become an absolute mammoth when you slide it into one of these cases. Each one has a microfiber lining on the inside to protect the devices’ glass designs, and the top portion of the accessories still slides down so you can insert your iPhone bottom-first.

In terms of extra battery life, Apple doesn’t supply any specs as to how big the batteries are inside each case. However, the company says iPhone XS users can expect up to 33 extra hours of talk time, up to 21 extra hours of internet usage, and up to 25 extra hours of video playback time. For XS Max customers, you can expect up to 37 extra hours of talk time, up to 20 extra hours of internet usage, and up to 25 extra hours of video playback time. Finally, for XR users, you get up to 39 extra hours of talk time, up to 22 extra hours of internet usage, and up to 27 extra hours of video playback time. You don’t necessarily need a battery case with the XR since it gets extremely good battery life on its own, but if you want your phone to last until 2020, this is the accessory for you.
Many of you may be curious about whether this case stops wireless charging. Fear not, as Apple says you can still place your iPhone while it’s inside a Smart Battery Case on a Qi wireless charger and simultaneously charge both gadgets. Of course, there’s also a Lightning connector on the bottom of all three cases which can be used to supply a charge or connect accessories like headphones and adapters.
The Smart Battery Case lineup for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR costs $129 across the board and are shipping starting today.
