Verizon has officially begun to roll out Android Marshmallow to Samsung Galaxy Note 5 devices locked to their network. The software, version 6.0.1, is bringing with it the build number of VRU2BPB2 and can be downloaded by going to Settings > About Device > Software Updates.
The update brings the usual new features and improvements found in Marshmallow such as Google Now on Tap, more manageable app permissions, and better battery life thanks to Doze Mode, but the Note 5 is also receiving some custom new features in the software upgrade as well such as Wi-Fi calling, Live Broadcasting, a tweaked TouchWiz UI, a new version of its stock web browser, and more.
In order to enable Wi-Fi calling, one must activate Advanced Calling first which can be done by going to Settings > Advanced Calling > Activate Advanced Calling. Then, one can enable the feature by going to the same location in Settings and activating Wi-Fi Calling.
If Live Broadcasting also is desired to be turned on, one needs to follow these tips to use the feature:
- You can access Live broadcast by tapping Camera > Mode> Live broadcast
- Create a shortcut on home screen for quick access to this cool feature. You can do so by tapping on the checkbox “Create shortcut on Home screen” on the welcome screen or go to Settings> Create shortcut
- Send Live broadcast invites to contacts not saved on your phone. You can now enter a phone number directly when you tap on Invite button.
Verizon has cared enough to notify customers that they have removed one built-in app: Amazon’s App Store. This means that customers will no longer be able to download apps and games from Amazon’s wide variety of software unless they manually install the App Store themselves. This shouldn’t be an issue, however, as many customers prefer the Play Store anyway.
