Amazon has announced that Prime members can now subscribe to HBO and Cinemax through the company’s premium service. HBO will cost $14.99 a month (the same price HBO charges by themselves) for unlimited streaming, while the Cinemax package will cost $9.99 a month.
Amazon’s VP of digital video Michael Paull said, “HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking, beloved and award-winning shows in television history,” then announced, “Prime members can now watch the latest episodes of the critically acclaimed Westworld and Game of Thrones without the need for a cable subscription. We’re thrilled to work with HBO to bring their cutting-edge content to Amazon Prime members with Amazon Channels.”
The reason behind is not only that Amazon wants to make it easier for people to watch their beloved series but to get users to buy into the other services offered by the company. Prime members can already subscribe to Showtime, Starz and Comedy Central Stand-Up for varying monthly fees. One of the things that are holding back its potential is that Amazon Video is not available on some of the most popular streaming devices such as Chromecast and Apple TV. However, once these respective platforms open themselves up to Amazon Video, the company will no doubt have much more business. Unfortunately, there’s no way of telling when this time will come.
