Amazon Alexa Can Now Call People Over Skype

Alongside two music streaming platforms, Amazon is adding yet another service to its list of Alexa-controllable third-party integrations. This time around, the company’s partnering with Microsoft to enable the ability to call people using Skype. Users of the feature will be able to simply say, “Alexa, call Dave on Skype” and automatically fire up either a voice or video call, depending on your command and your device’s capabilities.

To enable the feature, visit Settings > Communication > Skype within the Alexa app on your iOS or Android device and sign in with your account. Afterward, you’ll be able to call anybody who’s also on Skype in your contacts with your voice.

According to the companies, virtually all modern Echo hardware is compatible with the feature, including the first- and second-generation Echos, first- and second-gen Echo Plus, second- and third-gen Echo Dot, Echo Spot, and first- and second-gen Echo Show.
