Amazon has had its Alexa voice assistant accessible to Android users for some time now, but it’s never been that easy to summon it. You’ve traditionally had to open the Alexa app to start a conversation with the voice bot, but in a recent update, that requirement appears to be diminished.
As spotted by various users across the web including Android Police, Amazon now lets users set Alexa as their device’s default voice assistant. Now, when you select Alexa from your phone’s Assist and voice input settings, you’ll be able to hold down your home button and activate it, much like you can already with the Google Assistant.
We were able to get the feature working on a Moto Z2 Force running Android Oreo, although other devices such as the OnePlus 5, LG V30, Galaxy Note 8, and more are also seeing compatibility as well.
