$79 Can Get You a Laptop That Runs Remix OS

Allwinner, a fairly popular manufacturer amongst super budget devices, has announced a new lineup of laptops that all run Jide’s Remix OS, with the cheapest costing just $79.

This laptop features a presumably all plastic body, an 11.6-inch 1366×768 display, a 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor paired with 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage for apps, games, music, movies, and more. There’s no word on what kind of battery life you can expect, however I assume somewhere around maybe 3-6 hours of use when considering the specs and price. There will also be models available which include 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of storage which will bring the price up to $99.

There’s also a model which includes a larger 14.1-inch display, however features the same resolution as the 11.6-inch unit for $20 more. Port wise, we’re looking at HDMI, two USBs, a microSD slot, and a headphone jack, so at least you’re not stuck with something like one USB and a connector for your earbuds.

Allwinner has also announced a 2-in-1 laptop/tablet convertible which includes an octa-core 32-bit ARM chip. This option will no doubt cost more than $99.

It’s worth noting that apps can hang for a little before launching on the lower-powered option, however that’s to be expected with specs of it’s nature.

Don’t immediately think you can go out and pick up one of these laptops. Allwinner has stated that if people want to buy these machines, they’ll eventually get the price down to $79. Otherwise, these computers may never even see the light of day. However, if the company is successful and the appropriate market for something like this is strong and wanting enough, the Notebook may be making a comeback – and it may run Android.
